Mother tried to drown her 4-year-old son in a canal and attacked the officer who tire
According to the police officials, the 31-year-old mother was arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday. The mother was reportedly caught trying to drown her 4-year-old son in a canal. She then attacked the police officer who intervened and tried to take the officer’s gun. Authorities said that the mother was acting irrationally and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The responding troopers discovered that the mother was holding her son’s face-down and appeared to be trying to smother him in the muddy embankment.
The 31-year-old mother from California, Taylor Delaine Green, is now charged her with one count each of attempted murder, felony cruelty to a child, resisting arrest, attempting to remove or take a firearm from an officer and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to reports.
California Highway Patrol troopers responded to a report about a Dodge Caravan blocking traffic on Woodruff Lane east of Armstrong Road. The responding troopers were checking the empty vehicle when they heard screams. The troopers followed the sound of the yelling and found the 31-year-old mother and her young son in the weeds lining an irrigation canal.
Authorities said that the mother was acting irrationally and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The responding troopers discovered that the mother was holding her son’s face-down and appeared to be trying to smother him in the muddy embankment.
When the trooper tried to reach for the child, the mother jumped into the canal and completely submerged herself and the child in water. The trooper then jumped in after the child and was able to wrestle him free of his mother’s grip while she was holding him underwater.
According to the court documents, the trooper then tried to drag the boy out of the canal. But, the 31-year-old mother reportedly grabbed the officer and tried to pull both him and the child back into the water. She also tried to take his weapon multiple times.
The 31-year-old mother was arrested and taken into custody. She is being held on $500,000 bond, according reports. Authorities said the woman may face a second attempted murder charge for trying to pull the officer underwater.
According to reports, the 4-year-old boy was safe and had been released into the custody of his father.
