A Murfreesboro Police officer was treated for smoke inhalation after helping to evacuate tenants at an early morning apartment fire. An elderly tenant was also treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters helped to evacuate others.
Murfreesboro, TENNESSEE – According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, this incident occurred right after 2 a.m. early Friday morning.
It happened at Chelsea Place Apartments located at 805 Bradyville Pike.
Officials said that Officer Joseph Shelton and Officer Dalton Parker were first on the scene.
The responding officers reportedly saw smoke coming from several units.
Officer Shelton heard an elderly male tenant yelling for help inside one of the units.
Officer Shelton went inside and saved the elderly male, who uses a walker.
Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services took the tenant and Officer Shelton to the hospital.
Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department crews helped evacuate two adults and a young male.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, prevented it from spreading to additional units.
Four units sustained damage, officials said.
Six people and a dog were displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
