Nashville, TENNESSEE – Metro Police said the fatal accident occurred Sunday night.
It happened on Bell Road near Ned Shelton Road.
MNPD officers responded to a report of a crash.
The responding officers discovered that the 23-year-old driver of Kia Optima was driving north when a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling south on Bell Road crossed the double yellow lines and struck the Optima.
The 23-year-old male driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was later identified as Freddie Smith.
The 25-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Silverado suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
His name is Daniel Rocha-Villanueva and police said he showed several indicators of impairment and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the crash.
A search warrant was obtained for his blood.
Upon his release from the hospital, the 25-year-old driver be charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, driving without a license, and failure to provide proof of insurance.
