A woman was shot and killed on a bus in California while protecting her children. The mother reportedly died after a gunman allegedly started firing at passengers as they stepped off a bus on February 2, per reports. The 43-year-old mother of four died protecting her children, according to her family.
“She blocked the way of the gunman from her daughter,” said Cynthia Mattern, her’s aunt, per reports. “Her kids were her whole world. She did everything she could to protect them and keep them safe.”
The 43-year-old mom, Karin Dalton, was on the bus with her two youngest children heading to New Mexico from Washington state to visit one of her older sons.
Her 11-year-old daughter was also shot along with four others, who are said to be in the hospital recovering from their injuries.
When police arrived the gunman had already fled the scene. The victims were taken to the hospital where their conditions are unknown at this time.
The alleged shooter, Asaahdi Coleman, was arrested, naked, inside a Walmart after getting into a fight, authorities said.
A motive for the shooting has yet to be established but passengers said he was acting erratically before he started shooting, per Fox News.
He failed to appear in court on Friday because he refused to leave jail, according to authorities. He is being held without bail.
