Mom gave birth to twin boys, but when doctors put the babies on scale to be weighed everyone was shocked!

To welcome a baby into the world is such a special event in anybody’s life — welcoming twins however, is something quite extraordinary. Twins account for around three in every 100 births in the U.S., but when this mother gave birth to twins, doctors soon realized that this was no average pair. When hospital staff put  the newborn boys on the scales to be weighed, everyone had quite a shock.

Alana and Paul from Scotland both have a lot of twins in their family. So when the couple found out that they were expecting a baby, they considered the possibility that Alana might be carrying twins.  “My dad had brothers who were twins, and there are twins on my mother’s side too,” said Alana. And soon came the exciting news… Alana was indeed carrying twins! “The scans said they were good sizes and the midwives told me they were growing well,” Alana told the Daily Mail.

Little did they know just how big the boys were going to grow. Alana and Paul looked forward to welcome their little miracles. But as Alana’s pregnancy progressed, her stomach grew bigger and bigger. Soon strangers on the street began to comment on the size of her baby bump. “My stomach was huge,” says Alana. Alana is a doctor, so kept a close eye on her weight and baby bump size. She realized that her boys would probably be a bit bigger than expected, probably around 5 lbs.  When the twins finally arrived, Alana and Paul, couldn’t believe just how big their babies had grown.

They weighed in at 16 lbs 13oz —  7 lbs heavier than most twins and the heaviest twins ever to be born in ScotIand. Paul and Alana’s babies are thought to be record breakers — being the biggest twins ever to be born in Scotland. But regardless of whether they enter the history books or not — the happy parents feel blessed that their boys arrived healthy. “The staff at the hospital told me they had never seen anything like this before,” said Alana. Paul, a 39-year-old personal trainer, said: “We have a lovely little daughter and now that we have boys, it’s a complete package.” He added: “It’s always great for any man to have a boy. We all know boys can get into a bit of trouble but we’ll keep them busy — a lot of sports will do them good.”
