Nashville, TN – A shootout between two convicted felons inside a Mini Mart on McFerrin Avenue in East Nashville Tuesday afternoon has resulted in multiple injuries and criminal charges, authorities said. Federal prosecution is also possible given the defendants’ prior records.
According to Nashville Police, Dajuan Pointer, 31, was arrested early Wednesday by detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division TITANS Unit at a parking lot in Bellevue. William Greer, 32, remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his knee and hand. Greer’s 31-year-old girlfriend was also treated for a gunshot wound to her buttocks.
Investigators said the incident began when Pointer entered the store wearing a ski mask and pointed a gun at a man at the checkout counter. When the man fled toward the door, Pointer fired, striking Greer and his girlfriend. Surveillance video reportedly showed Greer falling to the ground, retrieving his own firearm, and returning fire. Pointer fled the store, discarding a stolen pistol in a nearby dumpster before leaving in a Toyota sedan.
Pointer faces multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, gun theft, gun possession by a convicted felon, use of a gun in the commission of a dangerous felony, and being a fugitive wanted by U.S. Marshals. He has prior federal convictions for firearm offenses.
A state arrest warrant has been issued for Greer, charging him with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently on supervised federal release for prior gun crimes.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional arrests have been reported.
