The Black student then appears to pass out. Authorities are trying to determine if there were additional videos. The superintendent released a statement and said that the behavior that occurred in the video will not be tolerated. He also said that the school administrators and the school resource officer took immediate action.
According to the LPD, the white student has been charged with strangulation and assault in connection with the incident that allegedly occurred on Friday, April 22 at the CCMS in Kentucky, FOX56 reports.
The middle school student, who was not identified due to his age, reportedly strangled and assaulted a Black student in a school bathroom while three other students watched.
Police officials are trying to determine if there were additional videos.
According to Herald Leader, a racial slur can be heard on the video as a white student holds a Black student in a chokehold while three other students watch.
Police Chief Steven Garrett reportedly said: “It’s unclear who said the racial slur. I just want it to be known that this type of behavior is not going to tolerated. There’s been criminal charges filed. I want people to feel safe.”
During an interview with Herald Leader, Superintendent Lee said that the behavior that occurred in the video will not be tolerated. He also said that the school administrators and the school resource officer took immediate action.
Superintendent Barry Lee reportedly told Herald Leader:
“The incident took place this past Friday, and the school administrators took immediate action with the support of a LPD deputy who serves as the School Resource Officer. The school administrators and the SRO have been in communication with the parents throughout the investigation. No further information can be released due to all parties involved are juveniles, and the investigation is still ongoing.
The behavior that occurred in the video will not be tolerated. The school administrators and the SRO took immediate action but we must continue to be proactive in helping our students to understand that this is not acceptable behavior in our schools or in our communities.”
Parents and students told WKYT that they’ve known of other bathroom fights that got out of hand. This incident remains under investigation. This is a developing story and it will be updated as new information become available.
