Nashville, TENNESSEE – Metro Police Department officials said the 31-year-old murder fugitive, Michael Clay, is named in outstanding warrants charging him with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery-carjacking, and violating his parole conditions.
The Marshal’s Task Force attempted to take Clay into custody early today at the apartment. There was an exchange of gunfire and Clay was wounded. The FBI, which has jurisdiction concerning assaults on federal officers, is leading the investigation into the events on the Napier-Sudekum property this morning.
Clay has been a fugitive since April and was deemed to be very dangerous. He is accused in the April 1st murder of Tywane Miller, 37, and the wounding of Miller’s 29-year-old female friend in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store at the intersection of Gallatin and Maxwell Avenues.
The investigation showed Clay fled the scene in a white Ford Flex. He traveled onto I-40 east and collided with the interstate retaining wall and four other vehicles before coming to a stop. Clay and two passengers bailed out of the Flex, crossed over into the westbound lanes and then carjacked a 35-year-old Nashville man who was driving an SUV.
It was discovered abandoned later the same day in a Bordeaux neighborhood.
Clay was paroled from an 18-year sentence arising from a 2011 attempted murder conviction.
